SAMSAT Quiz

What is it?
Across the museum, iPads invite you to test your knowledge with quizzes on exhibits covering Robotic Arms, Tesla Coils, Autonomous Vehicles, and beyond. Benjamin Bowles, a SAMSAT intern, made the quiz software in 2023, and Caleb O’Kane, another SAMSAT intern, helped maintain it.
Battle for Cyber City

What is it?
This interactive simulator allows visitors to step into the roles of either the hacker or the defender of Cyber City! Through simulated scenarios, individuals can experience in real time how cyber-attacks are carried out and learn the strategies defenders use to protect systems and data. This shows you first hand the importance of being defensive on different cyber threats such as malware, phishing, viruses, ransomware, and more.
Why is it important to understand cyber security?
In today's digital age, understanding cybersecurity is more important than ever. Almost every aspect of our lives whether that be professional, personal, or public is integrated with the internet and dependent on technology. Here are several key reasons why understanding cybersecurity is essential.
Safeguarding Infrastructure:
Cities, businesses, and governments use complex systems to manage essential services, like power grids and communication networks. Cybersecurity helps protect these systems from cyber-attacks that could cause service disruptions.
Preventing Economic Damage:
Cyber-attacks can result in significant financial losses for individuals, businesses, and governments. By implementing effective cybersecurity measures, we can reduce the likelihood of costly data breaches, theft, and system failures.
National Security:
As cyber warfare continues to rise as a major threat, understanding cybersecurity is crucial for safeguarding national security. Cyber-attacks on government agencies, defense systems, or private sectors could create serious vulnerabilities that jeopardize national stability.
How does knowing cyber security and working on it now connect to our future?
Cybersecurity Workforce Development:
As cyber threats continue to evolve, the need for skilled cybersecurity professionals is increasing. Cyber City aims to inspire and educate the next generation of experts by offering hands-on, real-world simulations. By demonstrating how cyber-attacks can disrupt cities, visitors gain a greater understanding of the importance of safeguarding digital infrastructures, promoting career interest, and preparing individuals for future roles in the cybersecurity field.
Testbed for Future Scenarios:
The simulation tools in Cyber City enable visitors to explore potential challenges and test scenarios in a secure, virtual setting. This could assist cities in preparing for cyber-attacks, natural disasters, or technological failures in the future. As cities grow more digitized, the capacity to simulate and plan for these challenges in a cost-effective and risk-free manner will be essential for future urban planning and efficient stability.
